Press Release: $100 million for improvement of municipal infrastructure in the northern villages
Kuujjuaq, September 1, 2016. – While visiting the Nord-du-Québec region, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, Minister of Public Security and Minister responsible for the Montréal region, Martin Coiteux, the Minister responsible for Native Affairs, Geoffrey Kelley, and the Member of the National Assembly for Ungava, Jean Boucher, took the opportunity to announce the agreement concerning the management of the Isurruutiit Program with the Kativik Regional Government (KRG). This is the fourth phase of this program, which includes additional financial assistance of $100 million for the improvement of municipal infrastructure in northern villages.
Update, April-June 2016: NUNIVAAT - NUNAVIK STATISTICS PROGRAM
Based on a long history of cooperation between the Kativik Regional Government (KRG)
and Université Laval, Nunivaat was established in 2005 as a permanent, public and independent statistics program on the socioeconomic situation of Nunavik. Nunivaat is
directed by Université Laval and funded by the KRG.
RESEARCH AND RELATED ACTIVITIES
Study on the Cost of Living in Nunavik – All the data collected under the study in Nunavik between late 2014 and February 2016 has been entered. A total of 450 households were surveyed in Kangiqsualujjuaq, Kuujjuaq, Tasiujaq, Salluit, Puvirnituq and Umiujaq. Data collection work is continuing in the Quebec City region, and data processing and analysis work is underway. A final report is expected in the late fall. Under the Agreement on the Financing of Measures to Reduce the Cost of Living in Nunavik signed in 2013, the Makivik Corporation, the KRG and the Québec government made a commitment to use the results of this study to define effective and long-term solutions to the region’s high cost of living.
Press Release: Inauguration of new airport infrastructures in Tasiujaq
Tasiujaq, July 5, 2016 – On behalf of Jacques Daoust, Minister of Transport, Sustainable Mobility and Transport Electrification, Luc Blanchette, Minister for Mines and Minister responsible for the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region and the Nord-du-Québec region today inaugurates new airport infrastructures in Tasiujaq, Nunavik. On that occasion, he is accompanied by Jean Boucher, Member for Ungava, and Jennifer Munick, Chairperson of the Kativik Regional Government (KRG). The ceremony marks the completion of a series of important work carried out at the airport over the past few years.
