KRG requests financial assistance to strengthen the internet bandwidth in Nunavik, Northern Ontario and Northern Manitoba from Infrastructure Canada on behalf of the Northern Indigenous Community Satellite Network (NICSN).

The Kativik Regional Government is in the process of applying for financial assistance to strengthen the internet bandwidth in Nunavik from Industry Canada and Infrastructure Canada and in order to get approval it needs a letter of support from all the Northern Villages and all the Organizations in Nunavik.  These letters would increase the likelihood of getting financial assistance.  Once it is approved, and the bandwidth is increased in Nunavik, the internet speed and capabilities would greatly improve.

The Kativik Regional Government is one of the pioneers to establish a Wireless Internet Service in the world and it is vital that it is maintained. It has come a long way and has become a convenient resource to have in Nunavik.  It would be most beneficial to the residents and organizations in Nunavik to support this application because modern technology is becoming the main route of communication and operation in the world including the north, whether it is by electronic mail, teleconferences, etc. There can no longer be turning back. More bandwidth would mean faster access to information.

Please offer your support by producing a Letter of Support for this request from Infrastructure Canada. The more organizations support this the more KRG can offer the public.
