Cost-of-Living Reduction Measures

The KRG administers six innovative measures to help reduce the high cost of living faced by Nunavimmiut. The six cost-of-living reduction measures are the:

• Food Program
• Transportation Subsidy Program
• Support for Inuit Harvesting Activities
• Gasoline Subsidy Program
• Airfare Reduction Program
• Elders’ Assistance

Funding for these measures created by the KRG and the Makivik Corporation beginning in 2007 is paid for through an annual agreement with the Québec government, and is subject to modification or cancellation at any given time. Close monitoring of the six cost-of-living reduction measures is exercised by the KRG to ensure that demand does not outpace available funding.
