Employment & Training
Since its inception, the Department has fostered the employability of the region’s labour force by developing and implementing both small and large training activities that reflect the needs of residents, as well as areas of economic and social development. To keep abreast of this field, the Department promotes forums such as the Kativik Regional Employment and Training Committee and the First Nations and Inuit Advisory Committee on Labour Markets.
The 13 programs operated by the Department seek to stimulate full- and part-time training, student summer employment, activities that encourage high school students to continue their studies, full-time job creation, and activities that promote the employability of participants by fostering traditional skills. Target clienteles include youth, income security recipients, unemployed individuals, persons with disabilities, as well as Employment Insurance recipients.
Some of the sectors currently targeted by the Department for its employment and training activities are: tourism, mining, construction and information technology.
