Regional Development
Pursuant to the Act respecting the ministère des Affaires municipales, des Régions et de l’Occupation du territoire, the KRG is designated as the Regional Conference of Elected Officers for the Kativik Region. In this capacity, it is the primary interlocutor of the Québec government, and is recognized as an essential contributor to regional development projects. KRG contributions in this respect take the form of technical assistance as well as funding delivered through the Regional Development Fund (RDF).
Through the RDF, the KRG is able to finance measures identified under specific agreements entered into with government departments or agencies and, where applicable, other partners. The RDF is also used to finance other development activities pursued by the KRG under a regional five-year strategic development plan. With RDF funding, the Department contributes to a number of regional development activities: elders’ advocacy through the Nunavik Elders’ Committee, the status of women through the Saturviit Inuit Women’s Association of Nunavik, arts through the Aumaaggiivik Nunavik Arts Secretariat, the Nunavik Information Centre in Quebec City and the Food Coupon Program.
